Lipstick
April 11 - 26, 2025
ASL Performances:
Sundays @ 2 PM
Blending farcical comedy with genuine emotion, Lipstick is a love letter to the queer community that offers sharp dialogue, colorful characters, and laugh-out-loud moments.
Anna nervously invites Kelly over for what might be a date—or just a friendly dinner. But what starts as a simple evening quickly spirals into comedic chaos as Anna’s ex Mal, nosy best friend, a handyman, Mal’s mother, and a string of potential suitors crash the party. With its 90s sitcom nostalgia, raunchy chase sequences, and poignant reflections on love and self-discovery, Lipstick promises to leave audiences laughing, crying, and cheering for its messy, relatable characters.
Lipstick provides a rare and authentic representation of queer relationships, exploring the nuances of dating, self-acceptance, and community dynamics in a world that often overlooks or misrepresents LGBTQIA+ experiences. By embracing the messiness of love and identity, Lipstick challenges societal norms and stereotypes, making space for authentic and inclusive storytelling. Stanley’s work shines a light on the importance of queer joy, not just queer struggle, emphasizing that LGBTQIA+ narratives can be hilarious, heartfelt, and deeply resonant.

ABOUT AUSTIN RAINBOW THEATRE
Austin Rainbow Theatre, now in it’s second season, has solidified itself as the home for LGBTQIA+ performing arts in Central Texas. ART’s mission is to provide affordable theatre that focuses on creating belonging, reducing stigma, honoring diverse LGBTQIA+ history and stories, and amplifying LGBTQIA+ artist and community voices.
ART began its mission in 2021 with an exploratory production of The Laramie Project by Moises Kaufman and the Tectonic Theatre Project. This production was meant to gauge the necessity of an LGBTQIA+ theatre company and the response from the Central Texas community. After the outpouring of support from patrons, as well as the gratitude from members of the queer community, it was clear ART would be around for a long time!
