Press Release
Austin Rainbow Theatre Presents
Jordan Harrison’s
LOG CABIN
APRIL 12 - 20, 2024
This project has been financed in part by the City of Austin's Elevate Grant Program
Austin Rainbow Theatre, Central Texas’ new home for LGBTQIA+ theatre, closes their inaugural season with the hilariously thought-provoking play Log Cabin at Trinity Street Playhouse April 12-20th. Written by Pulitzer Prize finalist Jordan Harrison, Log Cabin delves into the complexities of queer identity, relationships, and community in contemporary America. Through humor, heart, and honesty, this pointed comedy offers a fresh and compelling look at the modern challenges facing the LGBTQIA+ experience in the 21st Century.
When a tight-knit circle of married gays (Chris & Ezra) and lesbians (Pam & Jules) – comfy in the new mainstream – find themselves challenged by the perspectives of their dapper transgender friend Henry and his new young girlfriend Myna, it’s clear that the march toward progress is anything but unified. As events unfold, tensions rise, and long-buried resentments and insecurities surface, each character is forced to confront their own biases and assumptions about gender, sexuality, and relationships. Grappling with questions of privilege, intersectionality, and the evolving landscape of LGBTQIA+ rights and acceptance, conservative hearts are revealed where you’d least expect.
Through Harrison’s sharp and witty dialogue, Log Cabin invites audiences to reflect on the complexities of LGBTQIA+ identities and the challenges faced by individuals within the community. Exploring themes of acceptance, authenticity, and the pursuit of happiness, Log Cabin offers a nuanced and thought-provoking portrayal of queer life. While charting the breakdown of empathy that occurs when individuals believe their rights are secure.
Featuring a talented local cast including Sandra Bates as Juels, Brunell Knox as Chris, Adrian Lancaster as Henry, CJ Legare as Pam, Devon Mitchell as Myna, and Chris Skinner as Ezra. Creative team includes; Christopher Preslar (Director), Lucinda Culver (Lighting Designer), Katie Birks-Kilman (Set Designer), and Clinton Williams (Stage Manager).
